Dean, Faculty of Arts

Kwantlen Polytechnic University

Metro Vancouver, British Columbia

Kwantlen Polytechnic University is a regionally focused undergraduate special purpose teaching institution. Situated within the Metro Vancouver area and with an operating budget of approximately $130 million, Kwantlen is a multi-sector university offering a wide array of undergraduate degree programs, trades and technology programs, and one and two-year certificate and diploma programs to 14,000 students on campuses in Surrey, Richmond, Langley and Cloverdale.

The Faculty of Arts is a newly formed unit which is the result of a merger of the Faculty of Humanities and the Faculty of Social Sciences. The new combined faculty houses 210 Faculty and approximately 6,600 students, effectively making this the University’s largest faculty.

Reporting to the Vice President Academic, the Dean, Faculty of Arts, will need to define a vision and create an umbrella under which all faculty, staff and students, from both former faculties, can pursue excellence in teaching, learning and scholarship. The new Dean will encourage a multidisciplinary and interdisciplinary approach, support academic excellence, and promote originality in research, scholarship and teaching. He/she will build an enhanced student experience and will attract and support creative faculty members.

An accomplished academic and inspiring organizational leader, the new Dean will have earned a Ph.D. or terminal degree in a relevant discipline and have a reputation for excellent scholarship and student engagement. Drawing upon past successes at the level of Dean, Associate Dean, Chair, or as Director of an Institute or Centre of significant scope, the successful candidate will promote the faculty both internally and externally and take the Faculty of Arts to new heights.

This is an exciting opportunity for a visionary and innovative leader to build something from the ground up and to galvanize and mobilize faculty around a shared vision.
