Math Placement Test


The Math Placement Test (MPT) is designed to assess your true knowledge and comprehension of Mathematics. This test can place you directly into university-level Mathematics courses, or recommend an appropriate upgrading course.

The MPT consists of four parts:

PART A 15 questions that test your skill level, understanding and ability to solve problems involving arithmetic.

Time limit: 45 minutes
PART B
15 questions that test your understanding of mathematics up to a Grade 10 level with an emphasis on basic algebra.

Time limit: 45 minutes
PART C 15 questions that test your understanding of algebra, geometry, and basic trigonometry up to a Grade 11 level.

Time limit: 45 minutes
PART D 20 questions that test your understanding of functions, algebra, geometry, trigonometry, exponentials, and logarithms up to a Grade 12 level.

Time limit: 1 hour
Additional Information:
  • Use of a calculator or dictionary during the MPT is strictly prohibited.
  • A fee of $25.00 is payable to the Student Enrollment Services.
  • The test may be re-written after 4 weeks, for a maximum of 3 times.
  • The test fee is non-refundable and non transferable
Interpreting MPT Results

Placement into most undergraduate level mathematics courses is determined by your Math Placement Test results and your high school math marks

MATQ 1092 10/15 If you achieve a minimum of 10/15 on Part A, you are eligible to register for MATQ 1092.

10/15 10/15 If you achieve a minimum of 10/15 on Part A and 10/15 on Part B, you are eligible to register for following courses: MATQ 1092, MATQ 1093, MATQ 1099, or MATH 1117.

11/15 If you achieve a minimum of 11/15 on Part C, you are eligible to register for the following courses: MATQ 1092, MATQ 1093, MATQ 1099, MATH 1117. You are also eligible to register for MATH 1112, or MATH 1115 if your high school grades meet the prerequisites of the respective course. 11/15 11/20 If you achieve a minimum of 11/15 on Part C and 11/20 on Part D, you are eligible to register for the following courses: MATQ 1092, MATQ 1093, MATQ 1099, MATH 1117. You are also eligible to register for MATH 1112, MATH 1115, MATH 1120, MATH 1130, MATH 1140, or MATH 1190 if your high school grades meet the prerequisites of the respective course.
