Academic and Career Preparation (ACP) English Assessment
All Students who wish to study in the Academic and Career Preparation English program are required to complete an
assessment test. This assessment will help to determine an appropriate placement for you in the program.
The ACP English Assessment consists of 2 parts and takes approximately 3 hours.
Part One: WRITING SAMPLE (TIME: 1 HOUR AND 15 MINUTES)
You will be asked to write:
(1) a paragraph on a topic that is provided.
AND
(2) a short essay chosen from a list of suggested topics.
Part Two: COMPUTER BASED ACCUPLACER (TIME: 1 HOUR AND 30 MINUTES)
READING COMPREHENSION ASSESSMENT
You will complete a reading comprehension assessment on a computer. The test consists of 20 multiple choice questions. Most students complete this assessment within 40 minutes. No previous computer experience is required but you should practice using a mouse before the test. This test leads directly into a:
SENTENCE SKILLS ASSESSMENT
You will complete a Sentence Skills assessment on a computer. The test consists of 20 multiple choice questions. Most students complete this assessment within 40 minutes. Again, no previous computer experience is required but you should practice using a mouse before the test.

After you have completed the assessment, you will speak to an Academic and Career Preparation Instructor who will explain your results and discuss your placement into ACP or recommend an alternative assessment.
If you would like to familiarize yourself with the Accuplacer tests before your assessment date, use a computer to access the internet then type “Accuplacer practice tests” into the search bar. The result of this search will yield many practice test sites.
REGISTRATION INTO COURSES:
In order to register for any Kwantlen courses, students MUST FILL OUT AN APPLICATION FORM AND PAY AN APPLICATION FEE OF $40.00. Application forms take 2 business days to process.
If you intend to register for ACP courses immediately following your assessment, submit your application form and fee before your assessment date.
