English Testing
Kwantlen offers three, unique English tests which evaluate your English competency. Your English test results are then used to meet the General Admission Requirement, specific program requirements and/or course prerequisites:
- Academic and Career Preparation (ACP) English Assessment
- This is a computer and writing-based test that will place you into the appropriate level of English upgrading at Kwantlen. You should take this test if you have not completed English 12, or if you have Communications 12.
- English Language Studies (ELST) Assessments
- Accuplacer: This is a computer- and writing-based assessment for students whose first language is not English. This test can place you into an ELST class at Kwantlen, and it can also be used to meet the General Admission Requirement. If you are doing ELST testing, you should take both the Accuplacer and the KIST tests.
- Kwanten In-House Speaking Test (KIST): This is an oral test for non-native English speakers. If you are doing ELST testing, you should take both the Accuplacer and KIST tests.
- English Placement Test (EPT)
- This is a writing-based test that can place you directly into university-level courses, or recommend an appropriate upgrading course. You should take this test if you have completed English 12, but do not have the B grade to get into ENGL 1100, or if you feel that your writing skills are quite strong.
