Student Responsibilities
Services for Students with Disabilities requires students to sign a Statement of Understanding at the intake interview regarding their responsibilities while receiving accommodations.
Every student with a disability at Kwantlen Polytechnic University who seeks academic accommodation due to his or her disability has a responsibility to:
-
Provide the necessary documentation to a Disability Advisor. Kwantlen does not provide or assume the cost of diagnostic services.
-
Bring the request for accommodations or for changes in accommodation needs to the attention of a Disability Advisor in a timely manner in order to allow for arrangement of accommodations.
-
All new and returning students who will be requesting an accommodation are required to contact a Disability Advisor at the beginning of their first semester.
-
Students who become disabled, either permanently or through fluctuations in functioning due to an existing permanent disability during their time at the University, should contact a Disability Advisor as soon as possible.
-
At the beginning of each semester, all students with disabilities should meet with each instructor from whom they are seeking accommodations; provide each with a current copy of the Instructor Letter and arrange for implementation of the identified accommodations.
All requests for exam and other test accommodations (e.g, extended time, alternative location, etc.) should be received by the Disability Advisor at least one week prior to the scheduled date for all exams, including in-class, mid-term or final examinations/tests.
Be knowledgeable about all relevant policies and procedures of Kwantlen Polytechnic University. These include, but are not limited to, the policies on attendance, examinations and student conduct, as well as other academic policies outlined in the Kwantlen Calendar.
