Psychology 4000: Practicum

 Psychology 4000: Practicum


This course is designed to introduce students to the workplace, research settings and possible entry-level jobs after graduation. Students work under the supervision of both the employer/host and a Kwantlen supervisor, undertaking projects that enable them to apply the academic knowledge and skills learned in the classroom.

The Practicum is normally taken in the summer, ideally after all or almost all other coursework is completed. Refer to calendar information for prerequisites.

Prerequisites: PSYC 3200and 4200 and 4400
(PSYC 4800recommended)

Elements:

¨ 180 – 220 hours minimum working for the employer/host;
¨ Part-time or full-time, at convenience of employer;
¨ Normally unpaid;
¨ Workplace meeting with faculty supervisor during placement;
¨ Brief assessment report from employer/host supervisor;
¨ 3 Class meetings during the semester;
¨ Weekly Email reports, and a final written & oral report
