Lyle G. Courtney

Lyle CourtenayA key word that describes my background is 'diversity'. I come from a farm in Ontario, and at various times have lived in the British Isles, Prince Edward Island, the Yukon, and for the past twenty-odd years, British Columbia. I worked in a variety of industries prior to my academic career, including agriculture, and also management in light engineering and financial services.

I earned my Masters in 1993 at the University of British Columbia, based on research into alternative workplaces and their potential effects on community planning in the Lower Mainland. My doctoral research concerned the impact of post-secondary education and training on socio-economic development in medium sized places within British Columbia. I completed my Ph.D. in 2000, also at UBC; as my way of celebrating the millennium. I began teaching as an instructor in 1995, and was appointed as a full-time regular at Kwantlen in 2003. I have also trained other college instructors all over the province for many years in the past, have served on the Academic Advisory Council of the Open Learning Agency, and am active in local community affairs.
