Instructors

The Environmental Protection Technology Program is delivered by a variety of instructors selected to provide a balance of academic rigour and industry experience. There are three types of instructors:

a) the EPT program instructors;

b) the contract instructors;

c) Kwantlen instructors from other departments.

The EPT program chair, the EPT laboratory instructor, and the EPT co-operative education coordinator are the program instructors.

The chair coordinates the daily activities of the program, attends meetings on behalf of the program, acts as the first point of contact for prospective students, and performs instructional duties. The laboratory instructor maintains the EPT lab and its equipment, coordinates supplies and logistics, and performs key instructional duties for all hands-on field and lab EPT exercises. The co-op coordinator effects key liaisons between the program and industry, promotes the program and identifies work-term opportunities, coordinates student placements, and performs instructional duties in work search techniques and ethics.

The program relies on contract instructors for their practical industrial or governmental experience and their breadth of knowledge of the industry. They are selected primarily for their ability to share their practical work experience.

The program also relies on Kwantlen faculty instructors from other departments to deliver some of the basic science and service courses. Some of these instructors have also been actively involved in the development of some programs courses. Key instructors include Pam McDonald (biology), Paul Kaushal and Pat Duffy (chemistry), and John Martin (geography). Their profiles can be found in their own web pages.
