General Course Information

The Course Presentation The course presentation contains my contact information, required materials, grading information, a tentative schedule for topics to be covered and the cheating and plagiarism policy.
The Lab Schedule When you'll be doing what in the lab, how to find it in the lab manual, whether or not a handout is required, whether or not there's an unknown for analysis, and whether or not the lab to be done is to be handed in at the end of the lab period on which it is done. The schedule has been revised since it was generated for you; this version has the same names for the labs as are found in the lab manual.
Functional group list You'll get this with any test that requires you to name organic compounds.
IR peak locations and intensities You'll get this with any test that requires you to use infrared spectral data to identify compounds.

Supplemental Richmond Campus Lab Material

Tips for the completion of the Qualitative Organic Analysis Lab What to do and what not to do while performing the qualitative organic analysis lab.

Supplemental Course Material

The Surrey Supplement The Surrey Supplement contains additional course notes, worksheets, and problem sets for Chemistry 1110, which is similar (though not identical) to this course content-wise.
The following are problem sets taken from Paul Kaushal's Chemistry 1105 web page.
Significant Figures and Density and answers Problems dealing with significant figures and density calculations
Isotopes Problems dealing with isotope notation and percent abundance
Nomenclature 1 and answers The first of two compound naming practice worksheets. Answers to both worksheets are provided here.
Nomenclature 2 and answers The second of two compound naming practice worksheets. Answers to both worksheets are provided here.
Chemical Reactions and answers Practice writing, completing, and balancing chemical reactions
Redox Reactions Problems dealing with oxidation numbers and balancing of redox reactions
Empirical Formula Empirical formula problems from percent by mass and combustion analysis.
Stoichiometry Problems to do with the mole concept in equations
Gases Problems to do with ideal gases
ppm and normality problems Here's a set of problems to give you a little more practice with the ppm and normality concepts.
Stoichiometry problems and solutions These problems are of Paul Kaushal's creation and cover all the mole concept stuff we do in class, including back-titrations and two-component mixture problems.
Back-titration problems Here are a half-dozen back-titration problems of my own creation, presented in order from easiest to hardest.
Gas problems and solutions Gas problems by Paul Kaushal.
Organic naming practice and answers. Practice naming organic compounds with this set of Paul Kaushal's problems. Answers are provided separately.
Organic reactions and answers This is Paul Kaushal's set of organic reaction problems. Answers are provided separately.
