Ethics
Program Review GuidelinesKwantlen's Administrative Policy No. B.12 provides the following guidelines, intended to promote and support constructive evaluation. Program reviews should be:
- Formative - Reviews will be conducted and reported in such a way that program strengths and weaknesses are clearly identified and program improvement can result.
- Participatory - The review process will involve input from internal and external stakeholders, including students, employers, program advisory committees, licensing or accreditation bodies, staff, faculty and administration.
- Standardized - Program Reviews will be conducted using standardized processes and methodologies and will be evidence-based.
- Strategic - The program review recommendations should facilitate short- and long-term planning for the program.
- Accountable - The program review methodology will result in a published report that highlights review conclusions and recommendations. The report will be distributed to program faculty, staff and administration; the Board of Governors; Education Council; the Office of the Vice President Academic and Provost; the Office of Institutional Analysis and Planning; the Program Review Committee and the Archives.
- Iterative - the review process will reference previous reviews and recommendations, with specific attention to trends and patterns.
Kwantlen Polytechnic University Research Ethics for Program Review
Research for Program Review, as "quality assurance studies" (Kwantlen Administrative Policy G.27), receives generic exemption from Kwantlen Polytechnic University Research Ethics Board review. This exemption covers research tools such as survey questions which are used as generic templates across many programs.
If a self-study committee wishes to create a unique research tool, the chair of the Program Review self-study committee (the principal investigator) should consult with the chair of the Kwantlen Polytechnic University Research Ethics Board regarding the need for special approval.
