Kwantlen business school awarded accounting accreditation

(SURREY, B.C.) Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s School of Business receives accreditation renewal for a five-year period by Certified Management Accountants of Canada (CMA) for its Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting program.

"The accreditation renewal of Kwantlen Polytechnic University's Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting program is a testament to the university's School of Business meeting the demanding accreditation requirements set out by CMA Canada," said Steve Vieweg, CMA, FCMA, President and CEO of CMA Canada. "The School offers innovative approaches to course design and delivery, supported by outstanding faculty resources, effective evaluation of student performance, and a commitment to continuing quality education."

CMA Canada is the first professional accounting organization in North America to accredit programs at leading universities. These programs, which provide complete coverage of the CMA Competency Map Entrance Requirements, equip students with in-depth knowledge and skills in management accounting, financial accounting, financial management and taxation, strategic management, and risk management and governance. These skills are required for mastering the advanced concepts covered in CMA Canada's Strategic Leadership Program, leading to the prestigious CMA designation.

Dr. Arthur Coren, Kwantlen’s Dean of the School of Business notes, "There are many benefits to accreditation, but three stand out. First, CMA accreditation signals to employers, the accounting profession and to the government that our program and our graduates meet a high quality standard. Second, it allows Kwantlen to attract top students who are interested in the CMA designation. And third, it provides our CMA aspirants with tangible benefits such as an exemption for the first part of the CMA Entrance Examination."

Students who successfully complete the Bachelor of Business Administration in Accounting with a minimum grade point average of 75 per cent are exempt from writing the CMA Entrance Examination. This select group of students will enter directly into the Strategic Leadership Program, the last step required to obtain the CMA designation.

Vieweg confirmed that Kwantlen Polytechnic University is among an exclusive group of universities across Canada to have an undergraduate accounting program accredited by CMA Canada.

As the second largest business school in Western Canada, Kwantlen Polytechnic University’s School of Business is ACBSP accredited and offers bachelor's degrees in entrepreneurial leadership, accounting, information technology, and human resources management.
