Statement of Intent

The Institute for Sustainable Horticulture at Kwantlen Polytechnic University is engaged in research that will enhance agriculture and create sustainable ways to strengthen food security in British Columbia and beyond.

ISH is working in partnership and consultation with the agricultural sector, community organizations and NGOs, public and private sector organizations and institutions, as well as with interested individuals to advance the growth of human-scale agriculture and demonstrate the strategic significance of bio-regional agri-food production to counteract the combined effects of peak oil, peak water, climate change, unsustainable development, and the challenges of increased population growth and rapid urbanization.

Our primary focus is on knowledge creation, transfer and dissemination. We are committed to increasing understanding and awareness of the strategic importance of human-scale agriculture to reduce unsustainability and create sustainable practices through which people and the environment can flourish.

The Institute is committed to advancing the concept of Municipal Enabled Agriculture as a basis for integrating agri-culture with urban-culture. However, ISH does not endorse, or take an advocacy position on land development projects, and our research activities do not imply or otherwise suggest tacit support from Kwantlen Polytechnic University.

We welcome your interest in our efforts to promote enhanced agriculture in British Columbia.
