IT Resources for Employees
The IET department at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (just call us "IET") provides support for the various IT and Telecom systems within the university and for the users of those systems; faculty, staff, students and administrators. We also participate in the development and support of distributed education projects within the university.

IET Service Offerings
Links to descriptions of our service offerings are located at OurKwantlen , our new information sharing platform using SharePoint. You will have direct access if you are connecting from a Kwantlen office using Internet Explorer , but login will be required if you are accessing pages using Firefox or from off-campus. Login and Access
When you are hired at Kwantlen, you will be provided with various accounts to access the services you will need. You will recieve a Windows account for your office computer, an email account, a myKwantlen account, an online self-service account, a Network account for web services and a Unix account for shared folders.
FAQ: How do I log in?
For Faculty:
(Office Computer, Lab Computer, Webmail and Wireless Internet on campus)
Your login name is your assigned " short name ", and your password (or PIN) is set in Online Self-Service.
If you don't know your assigned shortname, call the Service Desk for assistance.
(Online Self-Service, myKwantlen and Moodle)
Your login name is your 9-digit Banner (or employee) number, and your password (or PIN) is set in Online Self-Service.
For Staff and Administration:
(Office Computer, Webmail and Wireless Internet on campus)
Your login name is your assigned " short name ", and your password (or PIN) is set in Online Self-Service.
If you don't know your assigned shortname, call the Service Desk for assistance.

Password Synchronization
Access to most password-protected accounts is synchronised (passwords will be the same) via Online Self-Service.
The synchronised accounts are: Online Self-service, myKwantlen, OurKwantlen, Email, Windows and Moodle.
FAQ: What if I can't login?
myKwantlen - Your myKwantlen account will become suspended for a short time after 5 unsuccessful attempts; just wait about 10 minutes before trying again.
Online Self-Service - If your self-service account becomes locked or inaccessible, please contact the IET Service Desk.
Windows Computer Account - Log in using the kwt credentials in the login screen; contact the IET Service Desk for assistance as required.
Employee Accounts
Online Self-Service - Here you can check your pay statement, vacation balances, submit grades and view class lists (Faculty). This is where your set or change your password and security questions. All employees login using their 9-digit Banner number and PIN (password).

myKwantlen - This is a web portal providing access to employee services, campus announcements, course webpages and more. All employees login using their 9-digit Banner number and PIN (password).
Logging into myKwantlen also gives you automatic access to Online Self-Service and online Moodle course websites; no need to log in again.

Windows Computer Account - All employees have accounts which allow them to log onto Kwantlen office computers and access networked resources.
For all Staff, Faculty and Administration:
Your login name is your assigned " short name ", and your password (or PIN) is set in Online Self-Service.
Email - All employees at Kwantlen receive an @kwantlen.ca email account. We use Microsoft Outlook on office computers; employees can access email using Internet Explorer and going to web address webmail.kwantlen.ca . The Microsoft Outlook WebApp will open; login will be the same as for an office computer.

Faculty members also receive a second email account of the domain kwantlen.net associated with myKwantlen. This is to accomodate email communication from students (who also have kwantlen.net email accounts) and from online course websites. When a new Faculty member is hired, the kwantlen.net email account is setup to automatically forward to the kwantlen.ca account. Faculty can log into myKwantlen and change this setting if desired.
Moodle for Faculty
Moodle is an open source course management system designed by educators for educators. It is being used worldwide and has a large and supportive development community .

File Storage On-Campus
All employees receive a personal " Homes " directory (drive K ) on our server. It is available on office computers with login. Occasionally the K drive will not connect properly. To correct this, double-click the "MapDriveK" icon on your desktop to restore connection.
All employees receive selected access to files on the common drive (drive N ). Access to individual departmental folders is determined by employee job requirements. Department supervisors can place a request for access on behalf of employees by contacting the IET Service Desk.
Faculty also receive access to drive M which is used to store course related files for student access in labs, classrooms and Library computers.
Classroom and Lab Access
Faculty can log into instructor stations in eClassrooms and Labs in the same way at their office computers. Software needed for teaching is available at the beginning of each semester. Information about labs and classrooms can be found here .
Printing
Networked printers are setup on each employee computer. Printers are typically located in open department areas or central areas in hallways of classroom buildings. Faculty can also print in the Copy Centers located on each campus.
Student Handouts, course materials and other large print jobs should be submitted to the Print Shop .
This can be done online by going to http://eprint.kwantlen.ca
Note - for ALL employees, login to this service will be with your assigned "short name". The password for this service is not synchronized with the others and remains as the default unless you arrange with IET to change it.
Call the Service Desk if you need password assistance.
Room Bookings
You can book meeting rooms, classrooms and labs online or with a phone call.
Meeting Rooms
Employees can book meeting rooms online through Facilities. There is usually an employee computer and projector installed in the room for presentations. Note - for ALL employees, login to room bookings will be with your assigned "short name".

Classrooms and Labs
Classrooms and computer labs can be booked if they are not already in use for regularly scheduled classrooms. They cannot be booked online; please email roomrent@kwantlen.ca to arrange booking.
Please Note : if your booking is directly related to a class that you are teaching, you can email scheduling@kwantlen.ca with your request. If your request is for a computer lab and you require specific software on the computers, please include this information in the email. Every request should include your name, campus, course number and CRN . Scheduling will work with IET to find an available room with the technical requirements you specify.
Videoconferencing Classrooms
Kwantlen has one classroom on each of three campuses that are available for cross-campus meetings when they are not in use for regularly scheduled classes. Please contact the IET Service Desk to arrange booking.
