INSTRUCTIONAL ASSOCIATE - ACCESS PROGRAMS FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES - Competition Number 13-31A
Kwantlen Polytechnic University is seeking applications for on-call auxiliary Instructional Associates for our Access Programs for People with Disabilities (APPD) Department which is on Richmond, Surrey, and Langley Campuses.
Using your exceptional communication abilities, you will provide assistance and support to students with multiple barriers to employment and liaise with faculty and staff. You will provide instruction, prepare classroom materials and training aids; identify, coordinate, and monitor work experience placements; support students with learning strategies in their work placements; contribute to the completion of student evaluations; and provide support to employers. You will also attend and participate in community events and perform administrative functions.
Minimum qualifications for this position are a Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Education or Adult Special Education plus a minimum of three years’ recent experience working with adults with cognitive disabilities. The ability to prepare classroom material and training aids as well as knowledge of the community including local business and community agencies is essential.

INSTRUCTIONAL ASSOCIATE – LANDSCAPE OPERATIONS: SCHOOL OF HORTICULTURE – Competition Number 13-65R
The Faculty of Science and Horticulture at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) invites applications for full-time regular staff appointment as an Instructional Associate – Landscape Operations position in the School of Horticulture (SoH). Horticulture is a signature program at KPU’s Langley Campus and the School has a primary mandate train skilled horticulturists for the British Columbia horticulture industry (http://www.kwantlen.ca/hort.html).
Commencing as soon as possible, the successful candidate will work primarily at the Horticulture Field Lab on the Langley Campus as part of a team of support staff. The Horticulture Field Lab is composed of landscape plantings and gardens, a turf grass operations field facility, greenhouses, poly-houses, and a container nursery. These facilities form a core resource for the School of Horticulture academic and training programs.
The primary focus of this position is in support of Kwantlen’s landscape horticulture programming. As a member of the field lab staff team the Instructional Associate will assist and support School of Horticulture faculty by preparing materials for student use; assisting in the instruction and evaluation of students; providing guidance to students; and managing horticulture equipment, supplies, facilities, and systems at the Field Lab. He/she will provide input into the maintenance standard for the landscape at the Field Lab and will work to ensure the maintenance standard is met, as well as maintain the relevant operational records.
Minimum qualifications for this position include post-secondary training in landscape installation and maintenance (two year diploma minimum) with Landscape Industry Certified Technician status preferred. Also required is 5 years of experience in the landscape maintenance or construction, including two years of managerial or supervisory experience, a Class 5 Drivers License, and a B.C. Pesticide Applicators Certificate - Landscape IPM or obtain one within 60 days. Knowledge and experience in turf grass management or greenhouse production or nursery production is an asset.

MEDIA SPECIALIST - COMPETITION NUMBER 13-70R
Kwantlen Polytechnic University has an immediate opening for a full-time permanent Media Specialist to work in our Communications and Marketing Services department located on our Surrey campus. Reporting to the Director, Communications and Marketing Services, the Media Specialist will establish, encourage and maintain strong business relationships with media outlets and personnel in order to advance stories and obtain comprehensive publicity for the University, its departments, programs, students and faculty.
The Media Specialist is responsible for researching, writing, editing and distributing press releases and related information to local media and utilizing public relations software to monitor ongoing feedback, and track and analyze results. The successful candidate will edit copy for the department and for University marketing collateral that will successfully promote and increase institutional awareness and provide exceptional client/department centered service university-wide.
Required skills and qualifications include a degree or diploma in Journalism, Public Relations or Communications with a minimum 2 years’ experience with writing/editing content and public relations documents, press releases and content for marketing collateral. An equivalent combination of education, 3 years’ experience and training may be acceptable – proven with a current portfolio. In addition the successful candidate will require recent related experience in a media relations role. Demonstrated experience in contacting media with stories to successfully highlight organizational achievements is a must as well as advanced writing, editing and proofreading skills for communication vehicles that deliver key messages to both general and highly targeted audiences

A working knowledge of Priva and Argus computer software is essential.
Minimum qualifications for this position include post-secondary training in greenhouse and nursery production (two year diploma minimum). Also required is 1 year of relevant experience in one of greenhouse vegetable production, nursery production, a Class 5 Drivers License, and a B.C. Pesticide Applicators Certificate – Agriculture General or obtain one within 60 days. Knowledge and experience in landscape design and installation or turf grass management is an asset.
