INSTRUCTIONAL ASSOCIATE - ACCESS PROGRAMS FOR PEOPLE WITH DISABILITIES - Competition Number 13-31A


Kwantlen Polytechnic University is seeking applications for on-call auxiliary Instructional Associates for our Access Programs for People with Disabilities (APPD) Department which is on Richmond, Surrey, and Langley Campuses.


Using your exceptional communication abilities, you will provide assistance and support to students with multiple barriers to employment and liaise with faculty and staff. You will provide instruction, prepare classroom materials and training aids; identify, coordinate, and monitor work experience placements; support students with learning strategies in their work placements; contribute to the completion of student evaluations; and provide support to employers. You will also attend and participate in community events and perform administrative functions.  
 
Minimum qualifications for this position are a Bachelor’s Degree or Diploma in Education or Adult Special Education plus a minimum of three years’ recent experience working with adults with cognitive disabilities. The ability to prepare classroom material and training aids as well as knowledge of the community including local business and community agencies is essential.

ADMINISTRATIVE ASSISTANT, FACULTY OF ARTS - Competition Number 13-81A


Kwantlen Polytechnic University seeks a highly motivated and organized individual for approximately a nine month, full-time Administrative Assistant position for the Faculty of Arts (July 2013 – March 21, 2014). 

Qualified candidates will have completed a two-year diploma from a publicly accredited post-secondary institution and three years of recent related experience that demonstrates increasing levels of responsibility in a customer services orientated fast paced environment.  


Exceptional interpersonal and communication skills, both written and oral, are essential for this role as well as a proven ability to use tact and discretion when handling confidential matters.  The ability to work with minimal supervision, adapt quickly to new technologies, meet multiple overlapping deadlines and thrive during ongoing organizational transitions is critical for this role. 


Starting salary for this position is approximately $39,400 plus an attractive benefits package. RECORDS AND REGISTRATION ASSISTANT – Competition Number 13-75R

Kwantlen Polytechnic University has an exciting opportunity for an organized and detail-focused individual to join our team as the Records and Registration Assistant. This is a full-time regular position.

In this role, you will draw upon your well-developed knowledge of student records processing and procedures to maintain student academic and registration records and provide information to employees and students.  This will involve processing student registrations an answering related questions, monitoring the registration system and troubleshooting issues, and investigating and resolving registration errors/anomalies and recommending solutions.

This position requires advanced MS Word and Excel proficiency as well as intermediate level proficiency with Banner Student or a similar student records based information system. Ideally candidates will be Microsoft certified and will have MS Access experience as well.

An aptitude for exacting and precise work is essential in this role, as is the ability to deal with sensitive situations and confidential matters with tact and diplomacy. A good working knowledge of archival practices and procedures and a demonstrated ability to handle confidential information is essential.

Qualifications for the Records and Registration Assistant position are a two year diploma from a recognized post-secondary institution plus three years’ experience in a records oriented support role, ideally in the Office of the Registrar in a post-secondary institution. Knowledge of University programs and of the BC post-secondary education system is also necessary.

The successful candidate will provide support and assistance to students by providing pre-lab demonstration/instruction, student guidance and supervision in the lab, plus evaluation and assessment of lab performance and lab report. 

Minimum qualifications include a Bachelor of Science in Physics, or its equivalent, supplemented by previous related laboratory experience, and a good command of the English language.  A demonstrated working knowledge of course content, laboratory equipment and techniques pertaining to the instruction of courses offered by the physics department is essential, as well as the ability to communicate effectively in speech and writing the facts, figures and explanations of procedures in a lab setting.

FIELD LAB TECHNICIAN – SCHOOL OF HORTICULTURE – Competition Number 13-66A

The Faculty of Science and Horticulture at Kwantlen Polytechnic University (KPU) invites applications for a full time auxiliary Field Lab Technician position in the School of Horticulture (SoH).  Horticulture is a signature program at KPU’s Langley Campus and the SoH has a primary mandate to train skilled horticulturists for the British Columbia horticulture industry (http://www.kwantlen.ca/hort.html). 

The successful candidate will work primarily at the Horticulture Field Lab on the Langley Campus.  The Horticulture Field Lab is composed of landscape plantings and gardens, a turf grass operations field facility, greenhouses, poly-houses, and a container nursery.  These facilities form a core resource for the School of Horticulture academic and training programs.

The primary focus of this position is in support of Kwantlen’s greenhouse and nursery production programming.  As a member of the field lab staff team,  the Field Lab Technician will assist and support the Instructional Associates (and Instructors) by preparing materials for student use; preparing and maintaining field lab facilities; providing guidance to students; and maintaining the horticulture equipment, supplies, facilities, and systems at the Field Lab.  A working knowledge of Priva and Argus computer software is essential.

Minimum qualifications for this position include post-secondary training in greenhouse and nursery production (two year diploma minimum).  Also required is 1 year of relevant experience in one of greenhouse vegetable production, nursery production, a Class 5 Drivers License, and a B.C. Pesticide Applicators Certificate – Agriculture General or obtain one within 60 days.  Knowledge and experience in landscape design and installation or turf grass management is an asset.

COORDINATOR, STUDENT APPRAISALS – Competition Number 13-86R


KPU is recruiting a Student Appraisal Coordinator to coordinate student appraisal of instruction for the University.  Working under the overall direction of the Faculty Performance Review Committee, the Student Appraisal Coordinator organizes all aspects of the administration and reporting of student appraisals.  This includes working with the Class Climate software in setting up the online survey with multiple questionnaires and multiple start and end dates, as well as managing all aspects of in-class administration of the process.  The Coordinator also prepares and distributes various reports as required for different audiences.


This exciting position requires a Bachelor’s degree in Social Sciences or a related field with a solid background on research methodology, tests and measurements, computer applications or analytical study.  A Master’s degree is preferred.  Three to five years’ experience working with complex computer applications and databases as well as advanced knowledge of and experience with microcomputer applications including word processing, spreadsheets, presentation software, database applications and statistical software (Word, Excel, Access, SPSS) is essential in this role.  Knowledge of HTML programming, Banner Student Information System, web-based survey software and hard copy scanning software is an asset.  Exceptional verbal and written presentation skills are needed.

Working with the different Faculties within the University, the successful candidate can work well with people, has a keen attention for details, and has an organized and systematic approach to work.
