Greenhouse and Nursery Production: Technology Diploma

Students develop the knowledge and skills needed to work successfully in the greenhouse production of vegetable, flower or forestry crops, or the field and container production of ornamental plants in nursery environments.

Horticulture: Technology Diploma

Diploma graduates are the primary technical experts in the horticulture industry. A diploma program blends theory (i.e. plant growth, soil management), practice (i.e. harvest techniques, equipment operation, construction), and business. Choose a diploma program in greenhouse and nursery production, landscape design and installation or turfgrass management.

Horticulture: Horticulture Citation

Equal to approximately ¼ of a diploma, a citation can enhance your skills or offer a start on a career. All citation courses are transferable to a diploma. Choose from 11 different citations in areas like pest management, arboriculture, lawn care, production horticulture or landscape design.

Landscape Design and Installation: Technology Diploma

Students develop the knowledge and skills needed to work successfully in landscape design, installation and maintenance. Employment opportunities exist for supervisors and managers in residential and commercial landscaping companies, garden design firms, arboriculture, municipal park management and maintenance, and in horticulture materials supply companies. Graduates are well-prepared to start their own businesses.

Practical Horticulture Apprenticeship: Journey–Person Certification

Apprenticeship training links learning with full-time employment. Apprentices work with an employer who provides practical on-the-job training. Apprentices also attend four six-week technical training sessions at Kwantlen. Two apprenticeship programs are offered: landscape horticulture (focus on landscape maintenance) and production horticulture (focus on nursery production). Landscape horticulture is in the process of becoming a nationally recognized Red Seal trade. Secondary school students may enter the apprenticeship program, earning credits for their diploma while completing Level 1 of the apprenticeship program.

A minimum of Grade 10 completion is preferred. Applicants must be able to work in an adult learning environment.

Turf Management: Technology Diploma

Students develop the knowledge and skills needed to work successfully in the golf course industry. Opportunities also exist in lawn care, athletic field management and management of cemeteries, parks and recreational facilities. Related careers include equipment sales, fertilizer and seed sales and golf course construction.

*Students wishing to enter the citation program without undertaking English or Math upgrading need English 12–C+ and Principles or Applications of Math 11–C.

The 11 citations allow students to earn credentials in their specific areas of interest, often while working in the industry: Pest Management (Production), Pest Management (Landscape), Pest Management (Turf ), Production Facilities, Horticulture Science, Introduction to Sustainable Horticulture, Arboriculture, Foundations in Landscape Design, Residential and Commercial Lawn Care, Garden Centre Operations and Commercial Horticulture in B.C.
