Visual Arts – Faculty of Fine Arts

The BFA program offers an incredible balance of traditional academic requirements and strong studio curriculum focusing on the ideas and technical process of creating contemporary art.  With the rapid growth of technology and the collaborative opportunities offered with visual arts students are learning cutting edge applications while maintaining knowledge of more traditional media as well.  In keeping with Kwantlen’s applied-teaching principals students gain hands on experience with all forms of visual arts including digital media, photography, sculpture, painting, drawing and many more.  All of these are offered in small class sizes by instructors who are highly qualified and offer leadership and inspiration to in preparing students for their professional aspirations.

The applications of the BFA are also very diverse, allowing students many career options upon completion.  This is strengthened by the strong liberal education that provides the foundation for creative and thoughtful expression.  Students are also able to benefit from interdisciplinary learning as well with the support of the Cloverdale Trades and Technology Centre students are able to improve skills such as welding and masonry in order to create metal sculpture or enhance their ceramics work.

While arts and culture funding is often one of the first areas to be cut from budgets, the industry as a whole continues to contribute to the country’s revenue at an rapidly increasing rate.

The Faculty of Fine Arts would like to provide $100,000 to visual arts students through financial awards either annually or from an endowment of a similar size.
