High school students strut their fashion know-how at Kwantlen
September 10, 2007(RICHMOND, B.C.) Kwantlen University College’s Fashion Design and Technology program welcomed 20 Lower Mainland high school students to its Richmond Campus for a four day “Fashion High Heel Camp.”
“There is such a sense of fulfillment in teaching dedicated, young students in such a focused camp environment,” said Sharon Greeno, Kwantlen Fashion instructor. “We saw great skills turn into inspiring product and know that the fashion industry will continue to be in great hands in the future.”
The summer camp gave high school students, aged 14 to 18, a glimpse into the exciting career of fashion design. Students from a variety of backgrounds were introduced to all aspects of the fashion industry. Each of the four days featured a different instructor and fashion-related activity including methods to generate ideas and tips on drawing; ways to market products and designs locally; the basics of draping three-dimensional garments based on original drawings; and using digital images and computer software to design two photo-transfer t-shirts.
Participants had nothing but good things to say about the camp and appreciated the opportunity to share in their common love of fashion. Comments from participants included: "My greatest surprise was how much I didn't want to leave after the four days," and "What I liked best was EVERYTHING."
Due to the success of this year’s “Fashion High Heel Camp,” Kwantlen’s Fashion Design and Technology program plans to offer the summer camp again next year and may include a second camp covering sewing and Adobe Illustrator techniques.
