Career Counselling
Did you know that students who have a clear career and/or educational goal are more likely to:
- Stay in school
- Complete their studies more quickly
- Have a higher GPA
- Express greater satisfaction with their studies?
It's true! But don't panic if haven't gotten that far yet – Kwantlen's Counsellors can help you to figure out where you're headed. We offer the following career services:
- Career Seminars
- Individual Appointments
- Career and Educational Resources Centres
- Online Career Resources
- Career-Related Documents
Career Seminars
We offer four different career-related seminars:
- Career Planning
- Career Planning for Immigrant Professionals
- Career Exploration
- Who You Are Matters! Career Cycles
Individual Appointments
If you are a registered Kwantlen student, you can also make an appointment with a Counsellor on an individual basis to discuss your career concerns, such as career choice, transition from school to work and career management. Please note that, due to high volume, students at Surrey Campus need to attend a free Career Planning seminar prior to seeing a Counsellor individually about basic career-related issues.
Career and Educational Resources Centres
You can begin your research by visiting the Career and Educational Resources Centre on your campus, where you can find hard copy information on career options, labour market trends, income levels and educational options, as well as job search information on topics such as writing resumes and cover letters and performing well in interviews. In addition, each Resource Centre offers several internet-connected computers for online research.
- Surrey Campus: Room C160
- Richmond Campus: Room 1420
- Langley Campus: Room 1077
- Cloverdale Campus: Room 1120
Online Career Resources
There are hundreds of websites devoted to career search, educational options, labour market information and job search topics – so many, it's overwhelming. Click here to view our Top Ten Online Career Resources. A great place to start is Career Cruising, an excellent Canadian website that covers all the areas listed above. There's even a fun, online interest inventory, Matchmaker. You need a user name and password to access this website. To obtain these, contact us at the Counselling and Advising office on any Kwantlen campus.
