Dr. Xing Liu

Dr. Xing Liu received his Ph.D. from University of Wales, Cardiff, U.K. in 1993. He is currently faculty in Information Technology, School of Business, Kwantlen Polytechnic University, and a member of IEEE and ACM.

Dr. Xing Liu enjoys teaching and likes to work with students. He has extensive international academic experience and has held teaching positions in Canada, US, Singapore and China. Over the years, he has taught nearly 30 different undergraduate level courses in the areas of information technology, computer science, computer engineering, electronics and electrical engineering.

Research has always been part of Dr. Xing Liu's life. Areas he has researched include automatic control systems, dynamic system modeling, optical pattern recognition, neural networks, embedded Linux software and wireless technologies. Around 25 publications have been produced in these research areas, one of them is a book titled "Neural Networks for Identification, Prediction, and Control" that is included in the ACM's Guide to Computing Literature.

Dr Xing Liu also spent a couple of years in industry. He worked as software engineer and consultant for several companies in North America. One of the companies was Tegic Communications which is now part of America On Line. With Tegic he had the opportunity to contribute to the development of the award winning T9 software for Chinese language input on cell phones.

Dr. Xing Liu's current research interests are wireless technologies and their applications in toxic gas monitoring systems and healthcare systems. These include new strategies for the design and development of such systems, new hardware and software solutions for such systems and their implementation, potential applications of neural networks in the modeling and intelligence enhancement of such systems, and embedded wireless information systems.

Dr Xing Liu loves sports. He plays table tennis regularly, and plays badminton and volleyball from time to time. He is a member of the Canadian Chinese Table Tennis Federation (CCTTF), and won the 2007 men's double badminton championship (intermediate level) in Kwantlen Polytechnic University.
