Scholarships and Awards

Kwantlen Polytechnic University is committed to the tireless pursuit of learning, in keeping with the values of the Kwantlen First Nation. Kwantlen supports our Aboriginal students through scholarships and awards, including the Tireless Runner Award. Donations may be directed to this award or you may contribute in variety of ways. Tireless Runner Award

Kwantlen Polytechnic University is pleased to present awards to Aboriginal students at Kwantlen. In the Halq'emeylem language spoken by the Sto:lo people; "Kwantlen" means "Tireless Runner". The Kwantlen First Nation community is pleased and proud to be a part of this presentation.

Criteria:

  • applicant must show financial need
  • contribute to Aboriginal community activity
  • be Canadian Aboriginal and/or of Metis ancestry
  • be enrolled in university transfer or bachelor program

Irving K. Barber BC Scholarship Society - BC Aboriginal Student Award

Established in 2008 as part of the Provincial Government's strategy to improve Aboriginal access and achievement, the purpose of this award is to support Aboriginal people in getting post-secondary education by reducing financial barriers and are awarded on a competitive basis to students who:

  • are Aboriginal
  • are British Columbia residents
  • are accepted into an eligible program of study at one of BC’s public post-secondary institutions or Aboriginally controlled institutions
  • are studying in no later than their second year of any eligible program (if that program is longer than two years) by the application deadline. 
  • are enrolled in full time study in an approved program of study.

Minerva Foundation for BC Women Awards

The Minerva Foundation is pleased to present two awards to female students at Kwantlen who demonstrate proficiency, financial need and meet one of the following criteria:   

  • an Aboriginal woman
  • a single mother
  • a full-time student (minimum 9 credits)
  • a mature woman returning to the workforce after a long absence
  • a woman in a non-traditional field of study
  • an immigrant woman
  • a woman with disabilities

Pah-EE Memorial Award

Pah-EE was a member of the Douglas First Nation and a long-time leader of the In-SHUCK-ch peoples. He was an honest, hard working individual who was dedicated to seeing things through to the end and who wanted the best for his family and his people. In-SHUCK-ch Nation and Pah-EE's family are proud to announce an award in memory of Pah-EE, the late Mr. Ronald J. Gabriel. The Pah-EE Memorial Award will be available to students who are enrolled in one of the following Kwantlen Polytechnic University programs: Faculty of Arts: Humanities, Faculty of Arts: Social Science, School of Business, Centre for Design & Communications, School of Horticulture, Faculty of Science, Mathematics & Applied Sciences, Faculty of Community & Health Studies, Qualified Studies, or Trades & Technology.

Criteria:

  • applicant must be a member of In-SHUCK-ch Nation, which includes Samahquam Nation and Skatin First Nations, along with Douglas First Nation or be a relative of Pah-EE (Ronald J. Gabriel)
  • GPA 2.33 or greater
  • financial need (application must include completed budget form)
  • volunteerism or community service (application must be accompanied by letter of reference for each activity)
